One of the major focuses in this laboratory is to establish innovative measuring techniques for different parameters like flame emissivity, temperature, gas velocity, safety distances, heat flux to bodies in stand-alone and multiple pool fires. Other Research Laboratories in the Department include Robotics and Automation Laboratory, Dynamics and Vibrations Laboratory, and Computational Fluid Dynamics Laboratory, and CAD, CAM laboratory.

Measurement and Process Analysis Laboratory focuses on scientific and applied research of different manufacturing processes including conventional, non‑conventional subtractive manufacturing, additive manufacturing, metal forming, joining etc. The laboratory is dedicated to the measurement and analysis of these processes for enhancing the process capability and quality. Few of the facilities and research focuses being created includes CMM, Optical microscopes and metallurgical investigations, High Speed Camera, Thermal Imaging Camera, High Temperature measurement, Online force measurement system, In‑situ measurement of deformation processes, Process Analysis through Finite Element and other analysis techniques etc.

The Mechanical engineering workshop is comprised of several basic and modern machineries to encompass the manufacturing of components through different processes. The workshop contains machineries/ instruments for different shops namely turning shop, machine shop, welding shop, foundry shop, sheet metal and soldering shop, carpentry and pattern making shop, etc. Moreover, the regular undergraduate and postgraduate classes, Workshop are involved in the fabrication of special purpose jobs, fixtures, etc., needed for research work in the institute.

Tribology lab aims to understand contact mechanisms at micro, micro and nano-scales for designing precision and reliable equipment. The tribology lab has resources for understanding contacting and moving surfaces under different load and speeds under rolling-sliding or purely sliding or oscillatory conditions. The laboratory collaborates with other laboratories in the institute to develop new surface engineering techniques like coating and surface texturing.
