The Maritime field. IMU has MOUs with a few reputed foreign universities/institutes with the aim of international cooperation. Post-November 2008, Kochi Campus was set up at Kochi in 2009. The IMU Kochi campus is located in a sprawling 10-acre campus in Willingdon Island, Kochi. The port city of Kochi with its rich maritime background promises great potential for the Maritime institution offering specialized maritime courses and training. The infrastructure within the campus boasts of an administrative-cum-academic building, hostel building, workshop-cum-simulator building, auditorium, basic marine workshop etc. The campus has its plans to develop the essential infrastructure for futuristic academic programs.

The objective of the university/campus is to facilitate and promote maritime studies, training, research and extension work with a focus on emerging areas of studies like maritime history, maritime laws, maritime security, search and rescue, transportation of dangerous cargo, environmental studies and other related fields and also to achieve excellence in these and connected fields and other matters connected therewith.

Kerala has been the Maritime gateway to South India with a very long coastline. Kochi, the queen of the Arabian Sea placed along this coastline, has always kept its doors open to the maritime industry. The Smart City of Kochi enjoys a rich maritime history and is home to maritime establishments such as the Cochin Port Trust, Cochin Shipyard Limited, the Indian Navy’s Southern Naval Command, the International Container Trans-shipment Terminal and a host of other ancillary industries supporting the maritime sector including the shipbuilding and repair industry and maritime education. The establishment of the IMU Kochi Campus will go a long way in the promotion of the maritime sector in particular and the economy of the country as a whole. The campus currently conducts Under-Graduate courses in Nautical Science and Business Administration as well as Post Graduate courses and Ph.D. programs in Maritime Management. The Kochi campus has its plans to expand its academic horizon into Maritime Law, Post Sea Marine Courses, and Multi/Interdisciplinary Graduate, Post Graduate, and Research programs related to the maritime sector.

In the coming years, IMU Kochi aims to position itself among the world’s foremost academic institutions in Maritime Education and make its presence felt across the world, and support the maritime economic endeavors of the country. As we move forward to transform this vision into reality, we will create endless opportunities for students, teachers, researchers, industries, and more in the coming years. I welcome you to join us in this exciting journey.
