The institute is regarded as the most acclaimed Institute around the world on Marine Engineering and embodies discipline, dedication, and integrity of the highest order in the Engineering, Technical & Management field. The B.Tech. curriculum at IMU-KC is of world standard, in compliance with the requirements of DGS/IMO. The Institute takes immense pride in the students who are regarded as the finest Marine Engineers around the Globe. The students are well equipped with the knowledge of subjects like Ship Structure, Ship construction, Naval Architecture, Marine Auxiliary Machineries, Material Testing, Material Science and Ship Operations in Theory and Marine Workshop and Power Plant as the practical part of the curriculum.

As part of Maritime India Vision 2030 released by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on 02 Mar 2021, IMU-KC has been nominated to become a Centre of Excellence in Marine Engineering by the end of 2024. Towards this, the first step has been recently achieved, i.e., CIP compliance as per DGS norms with A1 Grade. IMU, Kolkata Campus is the only MTI in India to have NCC for its students.
