With an extensive aim of developing a qualified campus, The Indian Maritime University, Cochin Centre was established, and the DNS course inaugurated on August 22nd 2009 under the auspices of Dr. Christy Fernandez, Principal Secretary to the President of India.. An all-weather Kochi port allotted 12.6 acres of Land at a prime location at Willingdon Island for the IMU. 2.6 acres lies on the Highway on the Willingdon Island and is surrounded by the Cochin Port Trust, the Southern Naval Command and the Cochin Shipyard. 10 acres lies on the state highway near Kundanoor bridge and the main campus work was inaugurated by Shri Oommen Chandy, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Kerala by laying the Foundation stone on 18th September 2011. The infrastructure within the campus is Administrative cum academic building, Basic Marine Workshop, Cricket Football field, Basketball Court, Volleyball Court, and Electrical Substation, Rainwater harvesting system and sewage treatment plant.
