IMU Mumbai Port Campus consists of two Premier legacy Institutes, namely Lal Bahadur Shastri College of Advanced Maritime Studies & Research (LBS CAMSAR)
and Marine Engineering & Research Institute (MERI) (erstwhile D.M.E.T.).
Lal Bahadur Shastri, Nautical and Engineering College Bombay, was founded in
1948 under the Government of India. The College was renamed Lal Bahadur Shastri
College of Advanced Maritime Studies & Research (LBS CAMSAR) in 1994. The
Directorate of Marine Engineering Training (D.M.E.T.) was established in 1949. The
Institute was renamed Marine Engineering and Research Institute in 1995. MERI-
Mumbai is accredited as an ISO 9001: 2008 Institute, and I.C.R.A. also grade it as
a Grade-1 Institute. On 14th November 2008, on the formation of Indian Maritime
University (IMU), A Central University, these Government of India legacy Institutes
came under the IMU.
IMU Mumbai Campus has an area of about 8 acres with about 180 m of sea-front.
