History of Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate, Delhi
Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate, Delhi was formed on 25.10.2002, vide Notification No.15/2002-Customs (N.T.) dated 07.03.2002 read with Notification No. 63/2002-Customs (N.T.) dated 03.10.2002 issued by the Central Board of Excise & Customs (Now, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs), New Delhi; covering the area of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, the whole of the state of Haryana and the Noida Export Processing Zone (Now, the New Okhla Industrial
Development Authority Special Economic Zone) in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
Since then; the Officers of the Commissionerate are engaged in the job of booking Commercial Frauds and Smuggling Cases for protecting the economic frontiers of the Nation. The Officers of the Commissionerate collect intelligence and execute them as per Customs Law for booking cases and making seizures, wherever required. The job related to booking of cases and doing investigation is performed by the Officers posted in different Groups of Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate, Delhi.
The Commissionerate has six Groups named as Group I (Alpha), Group II (Beta), Group III (Delta), Group IV (Gama), Group V (Sigma) and Group VI (Theta) and also has Export Promotion Cells (EPCs) located at Delhi, Rohtak, Gurugram, Faridabad and Panchkula.
