About The Campus

IMU Act 2008 was passed in the Parliament on 12th November 2008, to establish Indian Maritime University (IMU) with its headquarters at Chennai. IMU Chennai Campus, previously known as the National Maritime Academy and much earlier as the National Institute of Port Management, is credited with ISO 9001:2000 Certification and accredited as grade 1 rating by ICRA. It was established in 1985 with the technical assistance from UNDP / UNCTAD to offer courses of reputable standards. It has modern facilities to conduct training programmes for both port and marine personnel. The Chennai Campus has two premises, one at Uthandi located on 20-acre scenic beachfront and boasts of legacy status. And another at Semmencherry with about 300 acres. where the new HQ building is built.
