Youth : A Largely Untapped Asset for India

India has one of the highest youth population across the globe. Around 500 million citizens are expected to be under the age of 25 by 2020. When added to the workforce, this population can contribute significantly towards the socio-economic development of the country: it could lead to a GDP growth by 2%.

Now the harsh truth: India may be one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, but this growth hasn’t trickled down to benefit a vast majority of youngsters who are out of jobs. The job market in our country is plagued with systemic inefficiencies. The rising unemployment rate, which reached as high as 23.5% in April-May 2020, is a cause of concern.

Self-Employment: A Vehicle for Change

Self-employment is an avenue of creating work opportunities for such individuals. In addition to spawning new opportunities, it catalyzes a culture of self-reliance emphasized time and again by our Honorable PM Shri Narendra Modi.

CM Yuva Hub: A Shot in the Arm

With a vision to build a robust ecosystem for entrepreneurship, the Government of Uttar Pradesh is taking concerted efforts to generate self-employment opportunities through its CM Yuva Hub initiative. The programme intends to provide assistance to individuals who are looking to start something of their own through easy access to capital, quality skill training and other facilities.

The provision of capital will be instrumental in transforming self-employed individuals to entrepreneurs who will contribute effectively to their own well-being as well as economic productivity. Schemes such as Sikho aur Kamao Yojna will train individuals in various traditional and modern vocations, making them suitably skilled to go for self-employment.

An Initiative to Benefit All

The initiative will see to it that the beneficiaries face no hurdles or inefficiencies when selecting a scheme, applying for the scheme, submitting their application, and availing assistance from banks or the concerned department. Special schemes for minorities, women, manual scavengers, artisans and urban poor will boost the less privileged sections of the society, offering them a level-playing field.
In addition to beneficiaries, CM Yuva will aid other stakeholders: knowledge partners, nodal departments as well as banks. With a unified web portal in place, it will be easy for each of these entities to execute their roles and responsibilities in a hassle-free manner. Seamless flow of information between them will expedite the processing of applications, eliminating needless paper-work.
