Department Of Pediatric

The department of Pediatrics was started in April 2013 with a single faculty, under the leadership of Dr Rashmi Ranjan Das. The OPD services started in June 2013 with one senior resident (SR) assisting Dr Rashmi. Subsequently, the IPD services were started with 6 beds in 2014. In 2015, it was expanded to 28 beds and then to 60 beds in 2018. Dr Rashmi Ranjan Das also started the Neonatology services in February 2014 with the delivery of the first baby. The Paediatrics department ran the neonatology services till March 2016, after which it was handed over after the joining of faculty in the Department of Neonatology. The PICU was started in 2017 with 2 beds with ventilators which subsequently expanded to 5, and then to the present 7 beds with state-of-art facilities.

With a vision of having paediatrics subspecialty services in our Institute, we initially started with Pediatrics Epilepsy and Pediatric Asthma clinics in 2016. Currently, we are providing subspecialty care to Pediatric Pulmonology, Pediatric Nephrology, Pediatrics Rheumatology, Infectious Diseases, Pediatric Endocrinology, Neurology, Child Guidance Clinic etc.

In future, we plan to start other subspecialties too, including Pediatric Gastroenterology, Developmental Pediatrics, and Adolescent Pediatrics. Currently, the department provides services like Pediatric Bronchoscopy, Lung Biopsy, Spirometry, Kidney Biopsy, Liver Biopsy, Peritoneal Dialysis, Haemodialysis, CRRT, Plasma Exchange, Upper and Lower GI Endoscopy, etc to children with various diseases in collaboration with other departments.

Currently, the department has 6 Faculty, 13 Senior residents, 12 Junior residents, 50 Nursing officers, 1 LDC, 1 office attendant and 10 Research staff.

In the year 2018-19, the department provided OPD services to almost 25,000 children with various disease, and during the same period, 2194 children were admitted and received treatment.

Our vision is to be one of the top five academic/research/patient care centres of Pediatrics in India by 2030. Our mission is to improve children's health through excellence in patient care, research, education and innovation.   • Our UG students had participated in IAP annual quiz competition, won the state round, and participated and runners up in the Zonal round too in the year 2017 & 2019.
  • Our PG students (Dr Shyam and Dr Karthika) were the runners up for the prestigious IAP PG quiz competition at the National level for the year 2020 after winning the East Zonal level round.
  • Dr Rashmi Ranjan Das has been awarded the young researcher award by IAP during PEDICON 2018.
  • Dr Rashmi Ranjan Das won the 1st Prize in the Platform Presentation of Award Papers in Consultant Category in RESPICON 2019.
  • Dr Fajruddhen Mohemmad won the First Prize in East Zone IAP Pediweek in 2020.
  • Dr Rashmi Ranjan Das won the 1st Prize in the Poster Presentation of Award Papers in NAPCON 2020.
  • Dr Swathi Nakka, Junior Resident, won the 1st Prize in Poster Presentation at the Odisha State IAP conference in 2021.
  • Dr Hemanth Kavti, Junior Resident, won the 1st Prize in Platform Presentation at the Odisha State IAP conference in 2021.
