- Honoured with Gold medal in Pediatrics, Prof R N Sen memorial award in Physiology ,Membership of National academy of Medical Sciences and ICMR National award for academic (University topper) and research excellence .
- Awarded with WHO overseas Fellowship (2011) at Royal Tropical Institute (KIT), Amsterdam, Netherlands for an Advanced course on’’ Monitoring and Evaluation in dynamic health system environment’’
Experiences:
After obtaining MD degree (2001) started clinical practice as a Pediatric specialist and shortly (2003) entered into clinical research at Regional Medical Research Centre, Bhubaneswar, a premier research organization of ICMR. Established a Regional apex viral diagnostic Laboratory at the centre with support from ICMR, Department of Health Research and dedicated significant portion of the career on Clinical epidemiology of emerging viral diseases in the region. Besides this, I took up filariasis research relevant to global programme for elimination of lymphatic filariasis (GPELF) and other responsibilities to train local man power(PhD, MD, MSc) to facilitate biomedical research in the region. Subsequently (2018) joined among the team of faculties at the Department of Pediatrics, AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. In the present assignment looking after teaching (MD, MBBS, M.Sc & BSc Nursing), patient care, research and departmental administration as Unit Head. Working on pediatric viral diseases natural history / susceptibility, vaccine preventable diseases like rota, measles and rubella . Taken special initiative to add a new dimension to understanding the etiology of acute encephalitis mediated by autoimmune mechanism (neuronal autoantibodies), besides viral encephalitis agents. Also set up congenital rubella screening/surveillance along with rubella susceptibility among pregnant mothers. To support the expected target of measles elimination, caring out study on protective measles antibody response and attributes among outreach population in the state through community based sero-epidemiological investigation.
Achievements: -
Established the apex regional virology research and diagnostic laboratory (VRDL) unique in the region and clinical facility at ICMR-RMRC Bhubaneswar. Took pioneer role in setting of Model Rural Health Research Unit and Tribal Field Research Units linked to the above institute. Put significant effort in generating extramural grants from DHR-ICMR, Govt. of India in establishing a state level VRDL at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. Wide experience in inter institutional (National / international) collaboration and organizational linkage through multisite research / academic involvements and extramural resource generation from organizations/ agencies like BMGF(USA), IVI(Korea), UNDP, WHO, DHR-ICMR. DBT etc. Research evidences generated were crucial in implementing Rota and JE vaccinations in the state of Odisha and HBV as well as HiB vaccination in the country. Awarded with BK AIKAT ICMR National award (2014) for excellence in tropical disease research. Significantly contributed towards academics and biomedical research / HRD in the region as a recognised member of PhD programmes, biomedical research & ethics committees and scientific evaluation committees of various universities/Institutions (Utkal , VIMSAR, SOA & KIIT university , AIIMS-BBSR) and as editorial board member of prestigious journals like BMC infectious diseases.
