About the Department/Division:

The department started with joining of Dr. Sanjay Kumar Giri, as Assistant Professor on 22^nd August 2016 which was further expanded on 30^th December 2017 with joining of Dr. Sunil Kumar Rout as Associate Professor. The department was subsequently strengthened by joining of Dr. Ranjit Kumar Sahu, Dr. Santanu Suba as Associate Professors and Dr. Mainak Mallik as Assistant Professor in June / July 2020. The department at present, is equipped with own indoor patient facility with 26 beds, one minor OT and 2 Main OTs (one Modular and another Integrated) with all necessary high-end instruments and equipment. A state of the art Burn Unit with 36 beds, first of its kind in Odisha, is going to be commissioned very soon. The department is providing services covering all subspecialties like hand surgery, microvascular reconstruction, aesthetic surgery, lymphatic surgery and Cranio-Maxillofacial surgery. We have a partnership with Smile Train and with the help of other ancillary departments, we are providing comprehensive care to all cleft lip and palate patients. Also with the help of RBSK, we are providing requisite medical care to the children with various reconstructive problems.   

Message from Head of the Department/Division:

Our department is relatively young (started only 5 years back) but manned with dynamic, energetic and enthusiastic faculties. Every faculty of the department is striving to make an impression in different subspecialties of plastic surgery and to explore into the new horizons as well. We are determined to deliver the best plastic surgery services to the population, the institute caters. We are committed to achieve excellence also in education and Research in the field of plastic & reconstructive surgery. I am sure we will live up to the expectations of everyone and be the torch bearer for the specialty in this part of our country.

Major Achievements:

Clinical – The department has performed more than 70 microvascular reconstructions, 27 brachial plexus reconstruction, and 75 cleft lip palate surgeries over this short period of time. The department also in association with the department of neurosurgery, has started performing pediatric craniofacial reconstructions, the services which were not available previously in the state of Odisha. Apart from these the department has performed a huge number of reconstructive procedures for post burn contractures, congenital and traumatic hand deformities, lymphedema of the limbs, lower limb defects and the anomalies of genitalia apart from a variety of aesthetic surgery procedures.   

Academic –

1. Dr Sanjay Kumar Giri was awarded Hand Surgery Fellowship of Indian Society for surgery of Hands in the year 2019.

Infrastructural – The department owns a high-end operating microscope, C-arm, Micro drill and Saw system, hydro jet debridement system and other advanced equipment necessary for the management of patients in this specialty. We have a specialized burn unit ready to open, designed to offer comprehensive care for burn patients.
