Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
About the Department/Division:
The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar has most advanced facilities of its kind in the region. An interdisciplinary team of doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, prosthetist & orthotist works under the department to enhance and restore functional ability and quality of life in people with physical impairments/disabilities of the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons. Our department provides both OPD and IPD services. We also conduct certain rehabilitative and deformity corrective surgeries in our own modular operation theatre which are conducted on a regular basis. Patients presenting with pain conditions pertaining to musculoskeletal disorders are managed through various forms of interventional and non-interventional measures. Ultrasound and fluoroscopic guided minimally invasive procedures are also performed. We have state of the art robotic rehabilitation system to help patients with various neurological disorders to reintegrate into their premorbid lifestyle. We try to provide high quality, evidence-based care to patients through a multidisciplinary team approach.
Message from Head of the Department/Division:
On behalf of PMR department, I may take this opportunity to congratulate & extend my gratitude to all faculty, academicians & staffs of the department and hospital. As we all witnessing covid-19 pandemic waves, we vow to stand together & defeat the virus by following covid appropriate behavior at work and community level. Though it has been a tough time, we still manage to articulate few mile stones like establishing & inaugurating a dedicated PMR OT, inaugurating & functioning Advanced Robotic rehabilitation system, Prosthetic -Orthotic unit & occupational therapy unit to our patient care infrastructure. By establishing these units, it is greatly enhancing our existing patient care efficiency, we ll continue to so in days to come. Our competent & dedicated team of doctors and staffs manage to perform around 700 major surgeries and our daily OPD foot fall was around 9000 so far. At times when our OPD was closed we had delivered patient care services through “Swathya App” & Telemedicine facilities to our patients. Our Inpatient nursing care has been remarkable in managing IPD patients while maintaining covid appropriate behavior among patients. In the middle of pandemic, we also did community outreach awareness programs regarding covid appropriate behavior in both rural & urban slum dwellers. Again, I would like thank all my faculty, residents & staffs for their sincere contribution for the full filling the department objectives. . I have a vision to make a world class PMR department at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar
