About the Department/Division: As per details in department:

The faculty members and residents of the department are actively involved in patient care, teaching and training, research and administrative activities. The department provides outpatient services, inpatient services, labour and delivery services and obstetric and gynecological procedures. The department also caters to the health problems of women with high-risk pregnancy and infertile couples through special clinics for them on every Monday and Thursday, respectively, from 2pm to 4pm. Various surgeries pertaining to gynecological endoscopy, urogynecology and gynecological oncology are being performed regularly. Comprehensive ultrasonography services are provided for quality patient care including dating scan, nuchal translucency scan, anomaly scan, interval growth scan with color Doppler, folliculometry and scans for gynecological pathologies. The department has also contributed actively in the OPD services at the AIIMS Satellite Centre at Balasore. Faculty members have also participated in different public awareness programs held by AIIMS, Bhubaneswar such as World Birth Defects Day and World menopause Day. The faculty members, senior and junior residents attended several conferences and workshops and presented various scientific papers. Faculty and residents brought laurels to the institute by winning in different quiz competitions and paper presentations.

Message from Head of the Department/Division:

It is my proud privilege to lead the department. Being the head of the department, it is my responsibility to lead the team. I am fortunate to have dedicated & enthusiastic team members to develop the department & institute. We are actively involved in teaching, training, research and patient care. Our outpatient inpatient numbers are progressively increasing so also the number of deliveries & surgeries. We are doing all type of open, endoscopic oncosurgeries and training our senior residents post graduate students in these aspects.

Our department is actively involved in teaching & training of both undergraduate and post graduate students. In the research front, we have extramural & intramural projects & guiding post graduate students in thesis. Faculty members & residents of our department presented & projected our academic achievements in various international, national, zonal & state forums, which was well appreciated. 

The department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology is committed to provide quality health care for pregnant women and other women with gynaeclogical problems. We are determined to care with human touch.

Academic Programmes
The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology is offers various courses for the training of undergraduates, postgraduates, senior residents.
MBBS - The recruitment occurs once in a year through an all-India entrance examination
MD (Obstetrics & Gynaecology): The recruitment occurs twice a year in January and July through an all-India entrance examination. It is of 3 years duration.  
Senior residents: The selection of senior residents is done through interview/clinical assessment by the department. It is for a maximum duration of 3 years post MS.  
Subspecialties: The Department offers various other courses in different areas of gynaecology including Post-doctoral Fellowship in Minimal Invasive Surgery, High risk Pregnancy and Gynec oncology.
The admission to these courses is conducted once a year in January through a written examination followed by clinical assessment/interview by the department.

Major activities

  • The Obstetrics and Gynaecology in collaboration with Department of Neonatology, observes "World Birth Defects Day" (WBDD) on 3rd March every year.
  • Panel discussion on polycystic ovary syndrome was held in the month of September 2020 with quiz competitions and poster presentations for postgraduates and senior residents as a part of creating awareness about PCOS among students.
  • Spreading awareness regarding menopause was done by conducting CME in month of October 2020.
  • Postgraduate masterclass series in clinical obstetrics was organized by the department   which included 5 sessions every 2 weeks which started on June 25th 2021.
  • TLH simplified: Live Operative Work shop was conducted on April 29th 2022.
  • Public awareness classes are taken in March and May for awareness about endometriosis and preeclampsia respectively.
  • Cervical cancer awareness is done every year in the month of January and November to increase awareness of cancers among women.
  • Department has organised Postgraduate master class series in clinical obstetrics which consisted of 5 sessions starting from July 25th 2021 at an interval of two weeks. Fraternity from all over Odisha attended the series with participation of postgraduate students from all Medical Colleges across Odisha.
  • Awareness regarding breast feeding is done through programmes conducted from August 1-7th as a part of world breast feeding week.
  • Department had conducted workshop in relation to Wissen 2021 organized by the undergraduates of AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
