Department Neurology AIIMS Bhubaneswar was established in April 2016. The department is providing clinical services to patients coming from all corners of Odisha and adjoining states.
Outpatient services include both regular OPDs and special neurology clinic- Epilepsy, movement disorder and headache clinics every week. The department also caters superspecialty Neurology services at AIIMS satellite centre Balasore
Laboratory services include Video EEG, Nerve conduction study, Electromyography, SFEMG, Evoked potentials (visual, somatosensory, auditory, P300), polysomnography and TMS (Transcranial magnetic stimulation). The department also provides minor procedures for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes which include carpal tunnel injection, Botox injection, nerve, muscle and skin biopsy.
DM Neurology course has been commenced in January 2019 with an intake of 2 students each year.
A dedicated Neuro ICU (7 bedded, 2 functional at present), 30 bedded Neurology inpatient ward (20 functional at present) and fully functional Neurophysiology laboratory is the major advancement in the department clinical care.
The department is also carrying out various research work (funded as well non-funded) in the field of stroke, epilepsy, neuroinfection, neurophysiology and other diseases.

Neurology is one of the earliest super-specialty department at the Institute. The Department provides facilities for diagnosis and management of all types of neurological disorders. It runs 3 outpatient clinics every week and active round-the-clock emergency services. The clinical neurophysiology laboratory started functioning in 2017 with all the basic and advanced electrophysiological services. From its inception, the emphasis of the department has been on quality patient care, research and to achieve academic excellence. Outpatient services and inpatient care has been incessantly on the rise over the years. The department has tried to maintain impeccable record of comprehensive patient care, active teaching and training of students as well as contributing to the scientific literature in terms of research. The department actively pursues clinical care and research activities in the sub-specialities of Epilepsy, Headache, Stroke, Neuro infections, Neurophysiology amongst others. The department is equipped with the latest modalities equipment’s for the diagnosis and management of various neurological disorders. Regular patient information programs and scientific deliberations are conducted by the department. The faculty of the department routinely participates in the public awareness programs and are active in various regional and national CME programs.
