ENT DEPARTMENT

About the department:

Department of ENT came to existence on 14^th February, 2013. Since the inception, the Department has strived for excellence in clinical services, research and education. The Department has 5 faculty specializing in specific aspects of the subject and dedicated to deliver the best outcomes. The department has a robust undergraduate and postgraduate training program which is ably supported by the Senior and Junior residents. The Department provides round the clock emergency services, including on holidays. Being equipped with the latest and state of the art gadgets, the Department has established a pioneering role in the eastern zone of the country. Aided by 4 audiologists and staff from All India Institute of Speech &Hearing, Mysuru, the Department provides a complete audiological evaluation and management services for free to the poor patients visiting the hospital.

In addition to clinical work the Department has been in the forefront of research activities at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, with multiple extramural, intramural funded projects and publications in reputed journals of the world. The faculty have been part of numerous national level research and education activities, representing eastern zone at national level.

The Department of ENT, stands as a pinnacle of advanced clinical care in the Eastern zone of the country. The faculty and residents with the support from Audiology & speech rehabilitation, Nursing and support team, together strive to scale further heights, providing the best care to the poor and needy patients of the eastern zone. The Department is committed to research, education and innovation, making it possible and simpler for the delivering state of art care to the poor people of the region.

Education:

1. Conducted the 1^st ENT based cadaveric workshop in the state of Odisha

(FESS and Flaps in Head & Neck Surgery)

2. Conducted 2 National conferences, NES 2017 and RHINOCON 2018

3. The Department faculty have participated actively as teaching faculty in various national and international teaching platforms.

4. The faculty have conducted many educational programs, both offline and online as an ongoing educational activity.

Research:

The Department has been part of National task force project in collaboration with ICMR and Ministry of Health and family welfare, GOI, representing the eastern zone of the country, in assessing the prevalence and aetiology of hearing loss in our country.

The Department has collaborated with IIT Kharagpur and All India Institute of speech and hearing, Mysuru, to improve clinical care and provide innovative care.

In addition, the department has numerous Intramural and extramural projects, contributing to improve outcomes in patients suffering from ENT disorders.

The Department has contributed to world literature with many international and national publications in peer reviewed Journals of high repute.

The faculty of the Department have held reputable positions in national bodies like All India rhinology society of India, Neuro-equillibrometric society of India and been part of national team in preparing guidelines for management of ENT disorders like, sleep disorders, cochlear implantation and nasal disorders.

Clinical services:

The Department has pioneered hearing rehabilitation in the state of Odisha and is the only centre in the state running a successful Cochlear Implant program. The Department has been a pioneer in introducing latest hearing rehabilitation technology in the eastern zone.

In addition the Department has mentored SCB medical college, Cuttack, in initiating Cochlear implant program, which is set to benefit the huge number of patients visiting the centre.

The Department has been a pioneer in the state of Odisha in advanced surgical care delivered with support of state of art technology like, advanced head and neck surgery, skull base surgery, laser laryngeal surgery for complex lesions and tumours, airway surgery etc. to name a few.

In addition to surgical expertise, the Department provides, a complete range of Audiological evaluation and audiological and speech rehabilitation. The addition of AIISH, Mysuru staff has helped augment our universal hearing screening and speech rehabilitation services.
