General Surgery

About the Department/Division:

PDF in Minimal Invasive Surgery was started in the department. Two candidates joined this one year course in the month of October 2019. The department conducts theory and clinical classes regularly. A total number of 104 theories and 418 clinical classes were conducted by the department for the undergraduates. Besides 143 seminars including the journal club were held for the postgraduates

The department conducted the Fellowship of Minimal Invasive Surgery course for the Surgeons and the Gynecologists from 11th April 2019 to 14th April 2019, at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. The department also organized an International conference on Breast, “ASOMACON 2019 from 14th November 2019 to 17th November 2019, at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. The Department organized a Sensitisation cum Training progam of the ANM & ASHA workers about breast examination and detecting suspected cases of breast cancer, on 15^th November, 2019, at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.

Dr Shritosh Kumar presented a paper based on his thesis, “ERAS in Gastrectomy-A Randomised Clinical Trial,“ at the 48^th World Congress of Surgery held in Krakow Poland from 11^th -15^th August 2019. His paper was adjudged as the Best Paper in that section for which he was awarded the Graham Hill’s prize.

Dr Prakash Kumar Sasmal received the 1^st Prize or the Best Faculty Paper Award in the Faculty paper presentation titled, Laparoscopic management of insulinoma of the pancreas: Tips and Techniques in the Attended the 79^th Annual Conference (ASICON 2019) held at Bhubaneswar from 18^th-21^st Dec, 2019.

Message from Head of the Department/Division:

I consider it as a pleasure and a responsibility to lead this young department as one amongst all the faculty members and with a vision to improve and upgrade the academics and patient care in the department in a disciplined manner so that people's and students' expectation can be met. Though its always a challenge to achieve the vision still i believe with the blessings of almighty and cooperation from all quarters we will be able to reach our goal.
