Prof. Dr Susama Patra, an alumnus of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR, Burla), obtained her MD in Pathology at SCB Medical College Cuttack, Odisha in 1992. Then she pursued her career in several reputed academic Institutions of India notably, JIPMER, Pondicherry; and Welcome Trust Research Laboratory, CMC Hospital, Vellore under the mentorship of Prof. Minee Mathan; where she worked in the field of Electron Microscopy, gastrointestinal and liver pathology. She gained wide experience in liver transplant pathology while working under Prof. Mohammad Rela (ex-faculty, King’s College London) and team at Multiorgan Transplant Centre, Global Hospitals before joining as Additional Professor and Head of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar in 2013. She has more than 25 years of teaching and diagnostic experiences in her field; and has been instrumental in bringing the department to its present form. She has more than 90 publications in various reputed indexed national and international journals to her credit.

Dr Pritinanda Mishra, has graduated from VSS Medical College Burla. and obtained her master’s degree in Pathology from SCB medical college, Cuttack. She worked as Senior Resident at JIPMER Puducherry and completed her tenure of three years in 2013. She was the first faculty to join the department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhubaneswar on 13th March 2013. She has been instrumental in establishing the laboratory services. She has more than 10 years of teaching and diagnostic experiences in the field of Pathology. Her field of interest is oncopathology0, specifically lymphomas, breast and lung cancer. She has published more than 50 articles in reputed journals and contributed to the field of academic teaching and research over the last 10 years. At present, she is working as an additional professor since July 2019. She is the guide of one MD pathology student and co guides of ten MD students both from intra and inter departments.

An alumnus of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR, Burla), Dr Somanath Padhi obtained his MD degree in Pathology from SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, Odisha in 2008 following which he pursued his career as senior resident in Pathology at prestigious Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad under the mentorship of Prof. Dr Sundaram Challa. He has nearly fifteen years of post MD teaching experiences involving both undergraduate and post graduate students from both private and government Institutions; as well as in diagnostic laboratory services. His field of interest include morphology, hematopathology-laboratory hematology, bone marrow pathology, and undergraduate medical education. Over the years, he has been instrumental in training of both Junior and Senior Residents from Pathology and Clinical Hematology in safety and quality of pediatric and adult bone marrow procedures as per International Council of Standardisation in Hematology (ICSH) Guidelines; as well as helping in setting up of hematology laboratory services including leukemia flow cytometry at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. Setting up of diagnostic leukemia cytogenetics laboratory service is another area where he is presently working on. He has more than fifty publications in various indexed national and international journals and is a frequent reviewer of several reputed international journals pertaining to the field of Hematology.

Dr Gaurav Chhabra completed his MD in laboratory medicine from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi in 2010. During his residency he developed a keen interest in the area of laboratory hematology and did his dissertation on coagulopathies and its impact on patients with traumatic brain injuries. Dr Chhabra is a life member of Indian Society of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine and Association of Laboratory Physicians of India, Eastern Hematology group and Odisha Hematology.

He worked as Senior resident at AIIMS, New Delhi, thereafter joined as Assistant Professor (Hematology) in the department of Laboratory Medicine at AIIMS, New Delhi. During his tenure he worked on various research projects both intramural as well as extramural in the field of hematology. He acted as resource person in the workshops conducted by the department and presented his work in various national and international conferences and was awarded for the same.

Dr Chhabra joined AIIMS, Bhubaneswar as Assistant Professor in the department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine in May 2016. He contributed in the development of the Hematology Laboratory of the department and starting from the routine services of the laboratory to the ancillary hemostatic tests and flow cytometry services for the diagnosis of the hematolymphoid neoplasms, He also introduced the immunology services of the laboratory. Besides, these he has been associated many intramural as well as extramural research projects working predominantly in the field of Hemoglobinopathies and acute leukemias. He is presently working towards the accreditation of the hematology laboratory.

Dr. Suvendu Purkait was graduated from (MBBS) from the Medical College, Kolkata, the oldest medical college in India. He completed his M.D. degree in Pathology from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. After completing the post-graduation degree, he joined as a Senior Resident and worked for three years in the Department of Pathology, AIIMS, New Delhi. Apart from providing service routine histopathology and cytopathology during the senior Residency, he was also posted and trained in various specialties, including Neuropathology, Renal pathology, oncopathology, and cardiac pathology (for a period of approximately six months in each specialty). Presently, he is looking after Neuropathology and Renal Pathology in addition to other routine responsibilities.

He has a keen interest in research. Hence, after completing his Senior Residency, he joined as Senior Research Associate (Pool officer) in the Department of Pathology, AIIMS, New Delhi, with a fellowship from CSIR, New Delhi. The main area of clinical and basic research in which he made seminal contributions is Neuro-oncology. His studies have contributed to the understanding of genetic as well as the epigenetic basis of CNS tumorigenesis (especially gliomagenesis) and identification of putative biomarkers for diagnosis, better prognostication, and planning of therapeutic strategies (bench to bedside parameters). These studies have been published in high-impact international journals. He is presently continuing his research in the same field with the help of extramural and instate research grants from various funding agencies. He also got approval for establishing a Brain-Biobank, the first of its kind in eastern zone India funded by ICMR to support quality Neuro-science research.

He got several awards in the field of neuroscience research, including the prestigious Herbert Krause Neurooncology Award, Dr. Subimal Roy award, and ISNO President’s award for the Best Student (Clinical/Medical Sciences) in Basic Neuro-Oncology.

Dr. Mukund Sable has completed his M.B.B.S from Grant medical College, Mumbai. Then he completed his Post-Graduation in Pathology from Tata Memorial Hospital – Mumbai, which is an apex institute of national importance for cancer diagnosis, and care in India. He submitted dissertation on triple negative breast cancer under guidance of Dr Sangeeta Desai. He was the university topper for subject of pathology in university of Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai for year 2011.

He worked as Senior Resident at Tata memorial hospital, Mumbai for one year under surgical pathology and cytopathology. Subsequently, he joined as senior resident at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi and worked in neuropathology section for 7 months. Later he served at Tata Memorial centre, Mumbai as ad-hoc Assistant professor for a brief period. During his stay at TMC, he worked towards logistic issues and establishment of different laboratory set ups of the department and tried to implement standard operating procedures for both histopathology and cytopathology. He pursued his research in Breast Pathology, neuropathology, and lymphoreticular pathology. He is a life member of Indian Association of Pathologist and microbiologist.

Dr. Mukund Sable joined AIIMS Bhubaneswar in 2016 as Assistant Professor. He continued his research interest in Oncopathology with research projects on Breast Cancer, Paediatric Cancer, Neuropathology and Thyroid Cancers. Consequently, he is currently exploring the role of tissue specific microbiome for modulating immunological response in Breast Cancer as well as involvement of Androgen receptor in different pathways leading to progression of breast cancer. He is instrumental in setting up of molecular pathology laboratory and standardization of fluorescence in situ hybridization test for various genetic modification, such as HER2 amplification and EWSR1 / FUS gene rearrangement. From last few years he is also working on innovative teaching learning methods and improving medical education at undergraduate.

At present, he is working as Associate professor since July, 2019. He is a guide to one Ph.D. and three MD pathology students.
