About the Department/Division: Teaching/Medico-legal Autopsy

Message from Head of the Department/Division:The Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology is engaged in teaching the MD, MBBS, BSc (H) Nursing, BSc (H) Paramedical students. Along with it we are offering dead body preservation facilities to both COVID & Non-COVID deaths and Post Mortem services. Faculties and residents are also offering guidance in post-mortem to District Hospital, Khordha and medico-legal consultancy to other Departments at the time of need. We in collaboration of Dept. of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine have also started pathological autopsy and Foetal Autopsy.

Major Achievements: From 2018, a separate building was established specially for decomposed and skeletonised body with a bone processing area. Bone processing in the department help to give expert opinion in skeletonized and decomposed body.

Major Activities: In the year 2014 department started Medico-legal autopsy with post-mortem cases from one Police station. Now three police stations have been added with nearly 300 cases per year. Our departmental lab conducting screening test for alcohol and Diatom test in drowning case.
